Fallout – Chernobyl 25 years later – Photoessay by Robert Knoth – Greenpeace

The fallout from Chernobyl is still creating havoc on the surrounding landscape and consequently on the food and the health of the people living in the Ukraine around the site.

Greenpeace has taken it upon themselves to remind us that this problem has not gone away and with the recent events in Japan it’s obvious that nuclear power must be phased out as we find alternatives to our energy needs.

A team visited the area in 2011 to carry out their own research as the government had stopped testing for radiation in 2009. They found that in one village the levels of Caesium-137 in milk was 2-16 times the safe level for children.

About the song

Some People is one of those songs that turned into a gargantuan beast filling nearly every track we had on the mixer and then some. It’s a funky beast that although sweet as sugar in parts, has a message that is quite biting and confronting.

I love the sound Herrin has on his guitar parts and the “Funky Love Horns” do their thing again. The end of the song has a message that sums it all up rather nicely. We’re all much the same as the other when it comes to Love.

We’ve been wanting to combine visual art with our soundtracks for some time. Like music, its easy when you work with great people. Its a simple principle. Find the right person and the process becomes fun and creative. Well we couldn’t have dreamed of a better person to create our first slide show with.

So, we created an 11 minute slide show that displays 29 of Nicole’s evocative pieces set to an atmospheric flute and piano soundtrack from the album “Embrace The Moment”.

As musicians, I think we can have some sense of where this type of creativity might come from but nevertheless it’s still something that makes us stop, and feel. Or look inside or something…

“My pastel drawings are spiritual and infused with positive energy so the viewer will be reminded of their own inner light and well being. I am American but have spent the past two years living and sharing my art in Tokyo, Japan. My work attempts to express and reveal the parts of life that exist beyond normal words and explanations.”

“Over the past few years I’ve had to face more than most people probably face in their lifetime, from two major operations, cancer and the ravages of chemotherapy to very deep personal issues surrounding life, death and relationships and yet I still feel as though I am the luckiest man alive.

There are not many people who get a second chance at being alive and the chance to face their death again. The first time I wasn’t ready but the next I think I will be able to leave peacefully.

So I guess you could say I’m a survivor who has been given a second chance to complete the things I have come here to do. One of those things is the making of this album. It has taken Seven years to complete and I think the wait has been worth while, I hope you do to. Dream Beautiful has a life of its own and I believe it will give joy to people and I could ask for no more.”
